About Michael Pengilly
Michael Pengilly was born and raised on Kangaroo Island. He is married to Jan and they have three grown children, Tim, Sarah and Patrick. Michael held numerous positions before his pre-selection as the Liberal candidate for Finniss including; Mayor of the Kangaroo Island Council, Chairman of the SA Country Fire Service Board and Chair of the Hills Mallee and Southern Regional Health Service Board as well as farming a property near Emu Bay, Kangaroo Island.
In November 2005 the then Member for Finniss, Hon Dean Brown announced his retirement from Parliament and Michael was pre-selected and began his campaign to become the new Liberal Member for Finniss. In March 2006 he was successfully elected to the State Parliament’s House of Assembly as the new Member.
Michael has held numerous Shadow responsibilities since
entering Parliament. These include Parliamentary Secretary
for Transport, Energy, Infrastructure and Regional Development.
Shadow Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Tourism, Southern
Suburbs and State/Local Government Relations. Currently
Michael is the Shadow Minister for Correctional Services,
Veterans' and Southern Suburbs. His commitment to these
portfolios along with his Electorate is evident and he continues
to work hard for his constituents as well as the greater
South Australian community.
Michael is also a Member of the Public Works Committee which evaluates all the South Australian Government Public Works proposals and then reports back to the South Australian Parliament with its findings and recommendations. He finds this role very interesting and enjoys it immensely.
Although Michael is new to the South Australian Parliament he is relishing the responsibility and opportunities that coincide with the positions he holds and is enjoying preparing newer and better policies within his Shadow Portfolios on behalf of the Liberal Party to bring to the next State Election in 2010.
